Skiing

When it comes to skiing, the slopes of East Tyrol impress with their special quality! Skiers appreciate the high level of snow reliability and the many sunny days. Typical for a ski holiday in East Tyrol – lots of space on the slopes and hardly any waiting time at the lifts.

The largest ski area in East Tyrol attracts with 44.6 kilometers of slopes and over 17 modern gondolas and lifts. The highest point of the ski area is at over 2,426 meters. A stop at the “Adlerlounge” is practically a must. The view of over 60 three-thousand-meter peaks from up close is breathtaking.

It is scientifically proven: winter hiking slows you down! In Matrei, three idyllic and groomed winter hiking trails await you.

A special experience is Austria’s first winter hiking village, Kartitsch. Here you will find 9 enjoyable trails through the snowy winter landscape. All signposted routes are maintained and prepared throughout the winter. The mountain village of Kartitsch lies at over 1,356 m in the Gailtal valley in East Tyrol.

Ice climbing

The Ice Park Osttirol is the largest artificial ice park in Austria. The ice park can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot behind the Matreier Tauernhaus. The ice falls are created by fine spray rain from pipes. This creates a climbing wall with around 80 routes.

Good to know: the day at the climbing park must be reserved in advance!
